SEO Links from Facebook (part 2)
January 29, 2008 Author: Adam Lee
I’ve continued the research into the SEO links from Facebook and now have evidence of it working.
The Facebook Page i set up as a test was taking too long to get re-indexed so i set up a new test page. This page has now been indexed with the Googlewhack term – ‘noporkpies adamskileevey’ (i wanted something non-competitive!).
shows that the page was indexed on the 27th December and that the links are being indexed by Google.
The next part of the test is to see if the links are being followed.

This page is not linked too anywhere but from the Facebook Pages.
THIS LINK shows that this page was indexed on 20th December and Yahoo is showing the only link to this page is from the original test Facebook Page Nicholas Nickleby movie download . This shows that the links are being followed by Google.
Finally comes the ranking – if the orphan page ranks for the Googlewhack we know that the Facebook links are a benefit to SEO. THIS LINK shows that the only 2 pages that rank in Google for this term are the orphan page and Facebook Page, showing SEO benefit from Facebook.
The Facebook pages all have no PageRank, so will not pass on huge SEO benefit without investing time in building up the Page, so can’t be used to spam loads of links from Facebook quickly. The benefit of this is that a social media hub can be set up on Facebook, it can be worked on and developed to drive visitors and links to that page and then that SEO benefit can be passed directed back to the parent website.
As the Page develops it will begin to get links directly from Facebook and will gain a lot of authority and the linking benefit will be very high.
Ultimately, this will get spammed and miss-used, and like many SEO benefits it will only be a matter of time before the benefit is ‘fixed’ and removed but it’s definitely something worth using in the short-term if you already have or are planning to build a Facebook Page.
